Artist Statement:
As a fashion designer, gender and sexuality are at the centre of my work. They are question I am drawn to naturally, more specially doing menswear where we still have difficulties to get out of narrow vision of masculinity in mainstream fashion. In my world, hyper-masculinity and hyper-femininity need to interact and contrast all the time.
With “I’m not ok, but it’s ok” I decided to explore teenage hood as a gay/queer boy and the hidden dark sides that can emerge during this period. It’s a story about having to build up a joyful facade for the world to see and ending up being trapped in your own body and mind. Neither at ease with your true self, neither with the image you have to project, you end up alone without mature guidance or help. Sex can then become a way to cope, to connect and to belong, often in a destructive path.
