@jockmooney - The Art of Being Queer - Artist Feature

Tonight's fabulous queer artist feature is @jockmooney

Artist Statement:

Jock Mooney was born in Edinburgh in 1982. He lives and works in London.

He went on to study sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art and graduated in 2004. His works have been shown worldwide in a number of acclaimed solo and group exhibitions, the most recent being the timely 'From Spiceworld to Brexit'. He is represented by Vane, a gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK).  His sculptures, drawings, paintings and performances have an engaging balance of visual detail and historical reference teamed with an almost adolescent sense of humour.

Jock is also 50% of the highly acclaimed animation duo, Alasdair & Jock.  The two have directed projects for The Beatles, Coldplay and David Gilmour amongst many others. As if that wasn’t enough, their work has also been projected onto Buckingham Palace during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012. Their most recent music video, for the The Beatles 'Here Comes the Sun' was released in September 2019, and is has amassed almost 20 million views on youtube! It isn't all just music videos though, check out www.alasdairandjock.com - short film 'Gelato Go Home' (about flying ice cream vans) is not to be missed!

In 2019 Jock joined forces with some old school friends to form VONK - a platform for his wonderful t-shirt designs. Highly original and in some cases hilarious portraits of celebrities as you've never seen them before jostle with three-eyed cats, smiling hot dogs and there seems to always be time for a pun. Months into launching, Vonk were delighted to see themselves featured on primetime UK TV by Gay royalty Lorraine Kelly.  If 'Mermaid, She Wrote' or 'Cat Lady Gaga' don't float your boat, check out the beautiful drawing of Grace Jones in duplicate, with rainbow-tinged hair and a gaze that is both beautiful and menacing at the same time!

Jock sums up his eclectic and varied projects and collaborations as a desire to not be pigeon-holed in any way.
