Toukamak - The Art of Being Queer

Tonight's queer artist feature is Toukamak

Artist Bio:

My name is Julio and I’m known as Toukamak. For all these 19 years being alive I had a brush in my hand, but painting only became an important part of my life after I started to discover my sexuality as I was only myself when I was painting or drawing. Someone used the phrase “brutally sexy” to describe my art and I’d say that’s the best description so far. A little bit of heavy metal and men in skintight latex.

In my eyes, what I make is a therapy, a way to digest all that is trapped inside and show it to the world without a drop of insecurity, even if it doesn't have any meaning for the world outside my room. So I don’t worry about thinking of what the interpretations could be because, for me, the most important part is that feeling of satisfaction and freedom while painting, the result is the mere product of easing the mind.

One of the coolest things about art that I deeply admire is how different the impressions and interpretations one piece can have, each person will read it differently and bring something new to the table. You end up learning a lot about yourself in the process of hearing others read your art.
